Nesian Mystic

Well Nesian Mystic & 4 Corners came to Perth, and was welcomed by a great crowd at the Herb Graham Recreatoin Centre. The night was spectacular with the local Dj's kicking off the night followed by 4Corners. Our Youth announcer/producer Charlie Tuaana caught up with Nesian Mystic & 4 Corners back stage and had a little bit of a chat with Brett (4Corners) & Feleti(Nesian Mystic) about where they're headed, what coming up and whether or not he could become a 4 Corner or Nesian Mystic. Charlie also interviewed a few people after the concert. Overall the night was very entertaining!!!

Nesian Mystik is a Hip Hop/Pop/Polynesian group, whose cultural backgrounds include Maori, Tongan, Samoan and Cook Island/ Aitutaki. The diversity Nesian Mystik harnesses, creates a sound which is uniquely their own, combining rap, soulful harmonies, scratching, and guitaring that has become the signature for these talented men.

Artwear 2005:

Moana Pasifika presented Artwear 2005 which was a big production The Artwear show itself was a big success, Once again most of the Pacific Cultures were represented but failed to draw the public. Valuable lessons were learnt.

Moana Pasifika participated in the New Zealand Day celebrations, where we had a stall to promote the Association and do recruiting for the radio station also selling craft as a fundraiser.

Artwear 2005 was a performance based on wearable art which meant taking art off the wall and putting it on the body. The show took this concept further by parading these amazing creations on the catwalk to a background of cultural performances. The overall theme of the show was "Oceans" and carried the conservation message.

The venue for this colourful, vibrant event was the Kwinana Community Arts center in the magnificent Amphitheatre. From the opening performance to the grand finale it offered people of many ethnic backgrounds an opportunity to work together on a unique project and to create friendship, understanding and ongoing support between the various cultural groups.  The project included Tongans, Samoans, Niueans, Cook Islanders, NZ Maori, Fijians, Australian Aboriginals and   European cultures

Artwear 2005 was an opportunity for extraordinary people to showcase their creative arts and talents to the wider community. Bizarre, outrageous, stunning and amazing were some of the words that were used to describe the entries that were exhibited on the night. The categories shown on the night were ,"Sensational Skin Body Art" ? Recycled Revolution' ? Overtly Organic ? ?Illumination Action' ? Fantastical Magical ?and ?Inspiration De Culture. Each category featured 5 to 10 wonderfully creative designs.

This year we were fortunate again to be sponsored by Air New Zealand who donated the major prize valued at approximately $5,000, the category prizes were divided between Polyculture and Moana Pasifika .

Westyle Pasifika 2003

In September 2003 Moana Pasifika produced its major event for the year: "Westyle Pasifika" The show included over 90 models, performers and technical crew and was attended by over five hundred people.

Westyle Pasifika

Westyle Pasifika was a performance based cross cultural fashion exhibition demonstrating the translation of Pacific style from ancient times through to the modern era. The exhibition included body art and wearable art, ceremonial and traditionally inspired clothing, contemporary clothing, music, ritual, dance, crafts and song.

Westyle Pasifika was an opportunity for people of the Pacific, living in Western Australia, to come together in the spirit of sharing and brotherhood, to showcase their arts, music, craft and clothing to each other and to the wider community. It offered people of many ethnic backgrounds an opportunity to work together on a unique project and to create friendship, understanding and ongoing support between the various cultural groups.  The project included Tongans, Samoans, Niueans, Cook Islanders, NZ Maori, Fijians, Kiribas and Australian Aboriginals.

The fashion show exhibiting six categories of designs: body art & wearable art, traditionally inspired and ceremonial, Lavalala/Pareo, Family/parent & Child, Urban streetwear and Pacific Glamour was married together with performances and set design drawn from the cultures of the Pacific.

As well as Office of Multicultural Interests funding, Moana Pasifika was able to attract sponsorship and support from Air New Zealand, Kaulima Jewellers, the Cook Islands Tourism Commission, House of Earnest, Spectator Sport Fremantle, Polykulcha Inc, Australia Pacific Business Migration and Settlement Services, and New Age Modelling Agency. The value of this sponsorship was estimated at approximately $6,500 and we thank them for their generosity.
