WAIRUA TIPUNA SUPER 12Z TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL.
Kia Ora Koutou Katoa, Nau Mai Haere Mai, Piki Mai Kake Mai Whakatau Mai Kia WESTERN AUSTRALIA'S FIRST SUPER 12Z FESTIVAL
OUR AIM IN HOSTING The first Western Australian Super 12Z is to develop Maori Performing Arts and encourage innovation. Like the name suggests, each group in the Super 12Z festival has 12 performers and can only perform waiata (song), poi and haka brackets for twelve minutes.
It is an innovation in terms of the way we're moving kapa haka from being traditional to more modern. The first 12 teams to register will secure a spot in the competition. Each team will create and perform a traditional or contemporary Kapa Haka bracket for 12 minutes. The bracket must contain a Waiata â ringa, Haka and Poi and be totally in the medium of Te Reo Mâori.
Teams will be judged on originality, execution and entertainment whilst maintaining a high standard of Te Reo Mâori. In addition to prizes for first second and third place, individual prizes will be awarded for Best Costume and Overall Originality. All performances must be in the Maori language, contain no Anti-Government or Negative Inter-Tribal statements and they must celebrate being Maori -which will be the constant theme of the day.
